This vid took me a while to make because I was trying a new style. Finally finished it last night, yay, but then had no internet all day to upload it until tonight because my ISP is a fuckbag. ~~No commentary because I think the vid explains itself, but ask questions if you have any.~~ Fuck it. There is now a commentary because I couldn't sleep.

I used this particular style of vidding, the 'layered effect', to give the idea of how many layers there are to their friendship.

commentary

[0;14 - 0;25] I focused on their eyes here, starting off with Wilson, to illustrate a kind of acknowledgement between them. Wilson smiling at "be myself again" is demonstrating him feeling happier in their friendship/relationship because of this point of forgiveness and amendment they've reached since all the Tritter crap (not to mention everything else).

[0;29] Focusing on House telling Wilson 'believe what you want' in prison, when Wilson asked about his apology. The left panel with Wilson giving House the drink is him accepting the apology for all that it was worth and they're returning to being friends enough to enjoy each other's company again.

[0;38] I love this shot of them. It illustrates 'almost made amends' really well, I think.

[0;45] "It's getting to the point that is the hardest part" - they both knew they needed to make amends but didn't know how or where to start. House was too stubborn and Wilson was too... Wilson. So, House drives off and it gives the idea that reaching the point of understanding was difficult.

[1;07] Vogler is one of the first big disasters we witnessed House getting himself into.

[1;13] "I'll point you home" - despite his anger, Wilson was still there for House throughout the whole Vogler fiasco, and afterwards.

[1;32] 'Son of Coma Guy' was such a great episode that went into House and Wilson's friendship. House actually acknowledged that he didn't want his friendship with Wilson to break.

[1;40] "love exhumed" - Stacy. This part is obvious, lol.

[1;55] I was trying to be clever with the idea of 'we're here to play the game of who loves more than whom', with using a small bit of footage of House and Wilson playing poker. Focus on House saying to Wilson 'I love you'.

[2;17] Tritter was House's other disaster, the biggest one.

[2;27] "You think it's only fair to do what's best for you when you're alone" - focus on House on his own in his apartment for this. And then focus on Wilson equally as lonely and alone.

[2;56] Wilson finally comes to House's apartment to try and make amends. This could be implied as a slashy *something more* happening here, especially with the song lyrics being "it's time to make this something more than only fair".

[3;08] A montage of some of the messed up shit House has done.

[3;33] "To rebuild" - House apologising to Wilson, and it ends with the same smile Wilson has at the beginning of the vid, to connect the whole "I think I'm getting to the point where I can be myself again/we have almost made amends".

Oh, wow. First of all, this is one of my FAVORITE songs, so I was all excited and flaily right from the get-go. But WOW. You just keep outdoing yourself. This was very subdued and... peaceful, in a way, but there was still so much going on. So many layers, just like their relationship. I love it. ♥

Yeah, that was the main thing I wanted - to show the layers in their friendship, juxtapose the scenes to demonstrate that. Not entirely sure if the style I used really worked in the long run, but it was fun to try something new and different for once, all the same. If I ever do this style again - and I'm not sure I will, because the programme didn't seem to like all the layers and kept stalling - I'll work on trying to make it more, idk, better. Lol. Somehow.

I concur about the hiatus - but it's more than that I think. I blame the numbers - that storyline sucked up the whole show and dragged on way too long. Also there's just too many characters now. Shore needs to axe some. Just not Cuddy or Wilson, and I'll be fine. ANYONE ELSE, REALLY. But the fandom has gotten quiet in the hiatus - plus it totally doesn't help that my competing fandom is like EXPLODING with flail right now, lol. It is distracting.

Haha I've noticed! ♥ I've thought about trying to get into other fandoms for something to do, expand my horizons, that sort of thing... Nothing else really interests me, though. Not enough to get into a fandom. Six Feet Under would, except there's basically no fandom for that show DDDDDDDDDDDD:

And yeahhh about House. I've kinda gotten to the point where I just shrug my shoulders and enjoy the show for all it's worth. I still love the characters but if the show doesn't really deliver in terms of quality, I'll just turn to cuddys_house or some fanfic XD

I like the new style. Awesome cropping and layering--I love how it begins in black and white and shifts to the dual frames in color right at :55 and carries from there--a beautiful way of emphasizing certain moments and pointing out similarities and differences. Some of those juxtaposed shots are breathtaking--I'm thinking especially of the scenes right after Tritter where House and Wilson are "looking" at each other. Wow, those cropped shots really make that work.

My only criticism, and it's really more of an observation, is that you make your cuts on the beat. That could be just a personal thing, and I know you do it in all your vids, but I really noticed it this time, and I think it's because of the smaller frames. I found myself paying less attention to what was happening in the video and more attention to "following along with the beat" and anticipating changes. In your other vids, that doesn't matter as much, because you're only looking at one frame at a time. Here, though, it seemed more pronounced. I don't know if that's useful to you or if you actually intended it--just something to think about, I guess.

Yay, thank you. Someone mentioned negative space elsewhere here, and I'm inclined to agree with them - too much negative space, regardless of the scene choices made. But new style, as you said. Not a style I'll do again, probably, but it was fun to make this vid, regardless - making each scene fit into each frame was a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle XD

As for music on the beat: I know what you mean. I always find this difficult because I've made vids (which I've never finished) where I've tried to steer away from making scene changes on the beat and it just looked messy and pretty much awful to me. Very uncoordinated and amateurish. I guess working around ways to make it less predictable is a thing to work on, though.

The concept for this is really cool--the symbolic layers and whatnot. Fits well with the theme of the vid. I thought the montage near the end was the best part, and I liked how you mixed the black and white and color to draw attention to certain frames. I think, and maybe it's just me, that this style needs to be developed a bit more. Conceptually, it's a great idea, but sometimes I thought all the negative space in the frame was distracting.

But this was very cool, and original. =)

Yeah - definitely not a style I've done before and you're right about the negative space. What made this vid especially hard to make was the fact that the programme couldn't seem to handle the multiple layers very well, so it constantly stalled, never giving me a very accurate viewing of how the vid looked as a whole until I'd rendered the whole thing. And by the time I'd rendered it... well, it took over an hour to render (usually vids only take 20 mins tops to render), and the vid itself a long time to make (about two weeks in total). I couldn't be bothered going back to correct anything, lol. Oh well. First time for everything, y/n.

Brilliant! Having the two frames showing each of them at the same time while in the same scene was fascinating to watch.

Eerily, a motorbike revved outside my house in RL at the exact moment House revved in on his bike...

It's definitely not a style I've tried before. If I ever tried this style again, I'd work on it longer to try and make it look, idk, a bit better somehow. Lol but I am proud enough of it as a first attempt.

One thing on the lyrics: It's "if you court this disaster" which even more makes me think of House. He took steps to "court" the disasters, to tease and invite them into his life. So frustrating for Wilson, rrr.

Oh, absolutely wonderful, Ticcy! Beautiful, beautiful work. I like this style. It almost felt like going through a scrapbook of House and Wilson's lives, looking at the little moments that tie together into the (painful, touching) whole. It really had a nice, relaxed, hopeful feel to it.

I love all the attention you paid to the lyrics, making sure the scenes accentuated the emotions of them.

I don't know how I came to find this post (been looking all over LJ for an hour or so, ended up here somehow, I guess), but I'm glad I did, 'cause this is one of the most creative House/Wilson vids I've ever seen.
The song is PERFECT for them and you've shown it in a beautiful way.
I was only bothered that heading towards the end, some of the layers seemed a bit randomly placed, but the clips themselves were still perfect!

Yeah, this was a style I'd never used before, and was pretty new to Sony Vegas in fact. So, I guess this was more experimenting than a definite idea of what I wanted to do with the vid. But I know now, if I ever do this style again, what to do and what not to do. All part of learning vidding, et al. :-)
